Job Summary/Description:

KSLA News 12 is searching for an enthusiastic, dynamic and engaging meteorologist to join Shreveport’s market leading First Alert Weather team. The Meteorologist will work closely with the Chief Meteorologist, news managers and producers to provide comprehensive daily weather forecasts and severe weather coverage on all of our platforms.

If you’re passionate about tracking storms, giving our audience the first alert to the next impactful weather event and producing meaningful content that our viewers can relate to, this could be your dream job. We’re looking for a qualified meteorologist to round out our market leading First Alert Weather team. Primary responsibilities include forecasting and producing distinct weathercasts focused on the next big weather maker for our weekend newscasts. Our ideal candidate will love covering weather on-air in studio, in the field and on our digital platforms.

During the week you’ll be a regular contributor to our hour long 6pm newscast. We’re looking for a self-starter who creates engaging explainers focused on the current local weather story or impactful weather or environmental events happening elsewhere as well as live reporting from community events or active weather situations.

You’ll also work closely with our digital team and Chief Meteorologist to create unique weather content viewers would like to see on Roku, AppleTV, Amazon Fire, our weather apps and website.

Experience in severe weather coverage is preferred. Experience with WSI graphics systems is a plus. Applicant must have superior social media skills. Experience reporting, shooting, and editing is a plus.

The primary job duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

-Analyze weather data and prepare an accurate forecast
-Use WSI graphic systems to create content supporting the forecast
– Cover severe and breaking weather situations across all platforms
– Post weather content to station website, social media accounts, apps, and streaming devices
– Flexibility in scheduling to cover severe weather or fill-in for other weather team members

Qualifications/Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in Meteorology or related field required

Previous television experience preferred, but will consider all talented and qualified candidates

Ability to work effectively within a team environment and interact with all personnel within the organization
