Description
WBRZ is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Master Control Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the technical aspects of the network’s transmission. They will manage the master control room equipment, ensuring it is constantly operational and efficient. Additionally, they will work closely with our directors and producers to ensure a smooth on-air production. The Master Control Engineer will be an integral part of our broadcast team and will have a direct impact on our programming.
Responsibilities
- Operate, monitor, and maintain the master control room equipment, open source encoding software, and transmission equipment
- Ensure all content is scheduled and ready for airing on time, while maintaining the flow of programming
- Troubleshoot technical difficulties in the transmission system and provide feedback to management to resolve problems in a timely manner
- Maintain the digital library and archive for all content streamed or broadcasted
- Ensure 24/7/365 monitoring of the master control room, recording equipment, and all broadcast signals
- Ensure that assigned departments follow the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and assist in creating new procedures or policy changes as needed
- Keep up-to-date with changing technology and equipment, and advise on upgrades that improve efficiency and provide quality results
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering preferred
- 5+ years of experience in a master control or broadcast-related position
- Strong knowledge of broadcast automation systems, including server-based and file-based playout systems
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and holidays
- Knowledge of video formats and compression, codecs, and file types
- Experience with media asset management systems
- Familiarity with closed captioning and subtitling processes and protocols.
