WGNO News in New Orleans is looking for a dynamic and multi-talented Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter to join our sports broadcasting and digital team!
WGNO Sports is the high school home for the past 30 years of Friday Night Football, a weekly sports show called Sportszone, and coverage of the Saints, Pelicans, LSU Tigers, Tulane Green Wave, and a host of other teams!
This is not an entry-level position. We’re looking for someone with a minimum of two years of professional experience in the field, on digital, and at the anchor desk.
We need a polished presentation, energetic personality, a creative storyteller, a social media rock star, and – above all – a positive attitude and a drive to win. You’ll be expected to develop relationships with contacts, dig up story ideas, and follow and break the biggest sports stories in Southeast Louisiana!

The Weekend Sports Anchor/Reporter is responsible for researching, writing, capturing visual content, and editing stories for multiple platforms in a manner that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.
Produces and present sports reports for all platforms, including producing long form content
Ensures that all sports content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality
Writes and delivers sports stories in a clear and concise manner
Assists in writing, copy editing, researching, and coordinating sports programming and other content
Responds to breaking sports events and other urgent newsroom situations as required
Works closely with the sports team to develop and produce comprehensive sports coverage and special sports programming
Participates in promotional activities including public appearances
Performs special projects and other duties as assigned
Shoots video for sports reports
Set up, composes, and executes video and live shots
Maintains video equipment
Edits video clips for television and digital platforms
Writes stories for the website and other digital platforms
Interacts with viewers and users on social media sites
Requirements & Skills:
Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience
Comprehensive knowledge of sports and sports related activities
Fluency in English
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with the ability to ad lib when required
Superior on-air presence
Experience guiding, directing, and motivating others
Proficiency with computers, telephones, copiers, scanners, and other office equipment
Ability to meet deadlines, prioritize assignments and handle multiple tasks simultaneously
Ability to effectively listen to fully understand problems and communicate with a team to shape a solution
Valid driver’s license with a good driving record
Flexibility to work any shift, with weekend anchoring responsibilities required
Physical Demands & Work Environment: The Sports Anchor/Reporter must be able to stand, sit, reach, conduct telephone conversations, use electronic mail, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions with individuals or groups, make decisions without supervision, make decisions that impact the results of co-workers, work outdoors in all weather conditions, and work indoors in environmentally controlled conditions. Must be able to lift, set up and operate equipment or items weighing up to 25 pounds.
