KATC, the E.W. Scripps Company ABC affiliate in Lafayette, Louisiana is looking for a positive, proactive, creative, and highly engaged individual for a Weekend Anchor / Multimedia Journalist role within our news team. We are seeking to find a storyteller who will help make our communities stronger and the world around us better. 

 

This weekend anchor role includes preparing and delivering accurate news reports for the weekend newscasts along multimedia journalist responsibilities of researching, writing, capturing visual content, and editing compelling news stories throughout the week.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:
Gathers, writes and presents news reports in a weekend anchor role.
Reports live on location from various news events.
Researches and develops news stories.
Perform various community service activities for station, including performing as master of ceremonies for public service events and as host/hostess for station events.
Periodically required to drive personal or company vehicles to cover various assignments.
Perform other duties as needed and as directed by News Management.
Receives assignment or evaluates news leads and news tips to develop story ideas.
Gathers and verifies factual information regarding stories through interview, observation, and research.
      

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:
BS/BA in Broadcast Journalism or related degree, or equivalent years of experience.
A minimum of two (2) years of broadcast experience.

At least six (6) years on camera experience is preferred.
 

WHAT YOU’LL BRING:
Must connect on camera with a sense of urgency.
Ability to cultivate sources and mine stories.
Computer literacy required, including newsroom computer systems.
Knowledge of newsroom computers (Newstar) and computer databases strongly preferred.
Must demonstrate strong news judgment and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and self-motivated, able to work in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment, effectively prioritizing and executing tasks in a high-pressure environment by remaining calm under pressure
Must have good creative and editorial judgment. Mastery of journalistic ethics and libel law.
Must be able to speak clearly and concisely.
Ability to collaborate successfully in a team environment and make decisions quickly during any type of coverage.
